One of the more popular colour ways of the Air Jordan 4 Retro releases, and one of the few that wasn’t an original colour way, we go over everything you need to know about the Air Jordan 2 Retro Cool Grey.
There’s been numerous retro editions of various Air Jordans, with most of the colour ways drawing back to the original releases. And it makes sense why. It’s a stab of nostalgia for the fans who loved the originals, and gives the trainers an updated boost of technology, while possibly changing up the materials, making the trainers more hardwearing. The ever growing history of these releases and re-releases has ensured that Nike is always on the top of their game in terms of quality colour ways and technology.
There are however exceptions to the rules, and sometimes the retro releases take inspiration from the original designs, while coming up with a new colour way that breaks away from the original ones. This is exactly what happened to the Air Jordan 4 Cool Grey release, with the versatile, cool tone colour way pleasantly surprising the 2004 audience.
Air Jordan 4 Cool Grey
The Air Jordan 4 Retro in a cool grey colour way were part of a second collection of Retro 4 colour ways released in 2004, with the first set being released in 1999. That’s a sizeable gap, with fans unable to get their hands on any new Air Jordan 4s, so when the second lot came through, Nike was sure to make some interesting changes.
The Cool Grey edition featured the same Air Jordan 4 technology, with Tinker Hatfield’s trademark mesh and wing design kept in a neutral grey to match the upper. The laces, tongue, branding and additional wings stay in either a lighter or darker grey, which gives the trainer a streamline, subtle finish. Even the iconic Jumpman logo is in a clean white, outlined by grey on the tongue, and a lined grey on the base of the trainer.
The sole breaks up the grey colouring, with a striking black and white finish and visible yellow air bag, with a small amount of yellow adding some colour on the tongue with the ‘flight’ text.
- Grey upper, laces and logo.
- Lightweight netting.
- Plastic wings on the upper.
- Visible Max Air in yellow.
