This Fully Off-Grid Tiny Timber Dwelling Features Two Lofts

A couple of months back we tapped the founder of Madeiguincho, Gonçalo Marrote for an interview with us. During the conversation, we adjured him to name his favorite build so far, but he didn’t hint at any particular tiny house but rather stated that all his timber houses are like children to him. However, if I was at his place I would have been a little biased towards Baleia tiny house, the latest design by Gonçalo and his team.

The Portuguese tiny house maker built the timber house as a full-time residence for a woman and her two children. Gonçalo told us earlier, “It’s the client who tells us their dreams and ideas after we do our input and try to find a middle ground. It’s a natural process.” It seems like the client wanted Madeiguincho to build a house that’s spacious, fully off-the-grid and sports a cozy wooden vibe.

Baleia is a tiny towable timber house, based on a double-axle trailer that is now a fancy abode for the Portuguese family. Just like their other tiny houses, the exterior of the tiny house is finished in timber and the interior is also encapsulated with wooden elements. Interestingly, it gets power from the solar panels and battery setup, making it suitable for off-grid living.

Measuring 275 inches in length and 98 inches in breadth, the tiny house features a two sleeping lofts, a kitchen and a bathroom. The house has two doors, with one being a glass door that connects directly to the kitchen. The other door lets you enter into a little galley containing a lot of storage space for clothes. In case you want a quick shower before moving to kitchen and loft area, this door allows you to have direct access to the bathroom with a stand-up shower and a composting toilet.

The lofts are accessible via ladders and are equipped with large beds. There are windows to peek outside while sleeping on the bed. The only downside of the loft areas is less storage space. Nevertheless, there is plenty of storage section in the main floor to accommodate that.

The kitchen area is quite spacious and fits a washer/dryer, a four-burner stove with oven and all other nitty-gritty essentials. There is also a living room adjacent to the kitchen featuring a dining table and seating. Baleia is a stylish and comfortable tiny dwelling decked with plenty of wood.
